Two more opportunities to share – April 2016

Hello – sorry for the multiple posts this month!  Here are two opportunities to pass on.  Please feel free to share more widely.

  1.  The Local Government Institute of Wisconsin would like your thoughts on the Future of Wisconsin Local Government – please click here to share your thoughts. — https://docs.google.com/a/vierbicher.com/forms/d/1G2QqptVgt4H90sAFlR_e3PcOMbQG1m9ceNFbl7YZOa4/viewform?c=0&w=1

2.  You are invited to the Community Development Webinar Series –

Engaging and mobilizing communities to address issues of concern can be a challenge – what starts out with great enthusiasm, may lose momentum and fizzle away.  Cooperative Extension has explored many models for community engagement and learned some great lessons for approaching multidisciplinary educational priorities.  We want to share some of this information with everyone in our community through a series of Webinars.  The series will feature state-of-the-art, scientific ideas for engaging communities in identifying their vision and building upon their assets for a robust and sustainable future.

The Community Development Webinar Series is available to you at NO COST!  There will be four “lunchtime learning opportunities” in this series, each offered from 12:00pm – 1:00pm at the J.P. Coughlin Center on the following dates:

Friday, April 15th, 2016
Friday, May 20th, 2016
Friday, June 17th, 2016
Friday, July 15th, 2016

This monthly, four-part series will systematically explore community development models and begin to identify a framework from which planners, community development practitioners, and extension educators can speak a common language, conduct worthwhile and effective projects, and engage with residents in our communities.

  • Session 1: Overview of Community Development.  Introduction, historic evolution, and best practices in community development.
  • Session 2: Introduction to Community Heart & SoulTM.  An approach to community planning and development that invites and involves residents to shape the future of their communities.
  • Session 3: Community Development in Wisconsin.  Compare and contrast community development approaches advanced by Cooperative Extension, a statewide nonprofit organization, and a planning consultant.
  • Session 4: Examples From Other States.  An exploration of models that have been embraced in neighboring states.

To register for the series, call the UW-Extension Office at (920) 232-1970.
