Eau Claire County 4-H Educator

Alf was the first 4-H Club Agent in Pierce County, beginning his career in 1957. In 1974, he became the Eau Claire County 4-H and Youth Agent. After serving more than 30 years as the 4-H and Youth Agent, Alf retired in 1987. The love of his work was evident in his genuine smile and positive attitude.

He was well-known for his work with leadership development and his ability to teach and inspire others. Alf helped volunteer leaders build successful community 4-H clubs and strong county and district 4-H leader organizations. He encouraged youth and adults to take leadership roles at club, county, district and state levels. Alf understood that empowering youth was just the beginning to better educate and prepare future citizens for tomorrow’s challenges.

Alf was instrumental in the formation of the Academic Department of Youth Development. He served as Chairman of the Department and was one of the first to receive the title of Professor. He served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Wisconsin Association of Extension 4-H and Youth Agents. In 1973, Alf received State and National 4-H Distinguished Service Awards.

Alf is remembered for his professionalism, organizational skills and strength of character. In retirement, Alf continued his work in the Lions Club, holding numerous offices and assisting with the Lions Vision Program. He currently serves as Treasurer for the Venice Lions Club Foundation. Alf is a member of the Venice American Legion and serves as an escort at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
