Joanne HornbyJoanne Hornby

Vernon County 4-H Volunteer

Joanne is an exemplary 4-H volunteer who serves with enthusiasm and tremendous 4-H pride. Over her 54 years as a 4-H volunteer, she has become a skilled builder of bridges across the generations by consistently encouraging youth to be the best they can be!

Her teaching career started as a missionary in Malaysia for three years. Returning to Viroqua, she spent 30 years as a physical education teacher. Joanne started the first adaptive physical education program in the public school system, working with physically and mentally disabled youth. She coached gymnastics, track, and volleyball.

Her 4-H experiences include leading 4-H delegations across the county, state, and country on various educational trips. Her enthusiasm for 4-H leadership brought many adults into the program. Joanne gives generously of her time and talent, and goes out of her way to accommodate youth that need a little extra attention. Countless 4-H youth and adults have been encouraged to participate in 4-H by her genuine enthusiasm, and her personal generosity to make 4-H opportunities available to others. Six generations of Joanne’s family have been involved in 4-H!
