Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center is a residential facility operated by the University of Wisconsin-Extension and located on the beautiful Wisconsin River, two miles north of Wisconsin Dells. The site consists of 14 buildings that supply lodging, meals and environmental education resources year round for youth and youth leaders. The center rests on 310 acres of forested land including Blackhawk Island, a 210-acre designated State Natural Area. This wooded property is considered one of the few remaining “old growth” natural areas of the state. The rock cliffs, shady canyons, caves and sandy beaches feature a variety of flora, fauna and unique geologic and cultural history.

WORKING TITLE:  Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center Program Director (100%)
OFFICIAL TITLE:  Administrative Program Specialist (prefix to be determined)
GEOGRAPHIC AREAS SERVED: Primarily Wisconsin Dells area and extending beyond Center boundaries for specific commitments and team programming
OFFICE LOCATION:  Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center, N194 County Road N, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, 53965

The Program Director works in partnership with the Center Director and Facility & Operations Director in providing leadership and operational management of Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. The Program Director manages the seasonal naturalist staff and oversees marketing as well as programmatic development. Upham Woods is a year-round educational facility that provides outdoor education, environmental education, and leadership education opportunities for over 11,000 youth and adults each year. The summer season consists of camps led by 4-H groups or open registration camps. During the spring, fall and winter, the Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center serves school groups and other youth organizations. Upham Woods strives to provide the community with outdoor educational programming and partnerships as a way to provide local accessibility to University resources and research.
