Naturalist Spotlight: Chris Shrader

In the spring of 1994, I went camping at Blue Mounds State Park.  I learned how to walk that weekend because I didn’t like getting my hands dirty from crawling over the dirt and gravel.  Fast forward almost 24 years and I am new to the staff at Upham Woods as a Teaching Naturalist.  In the literal sense, I am perfectly capable of walking on my own, however I am still toddling along as I practice and prepare to teach lessons on my own.  I have been practicing a lot with Stella, our barred owl, and Beauty, our red tailed hawk.  I have also enjoyed caring for our other education animals and exploring all that Upham Woods has to offer.  I am looking forward to sharing all of this with you when you come to visit, and teaching you how to walk with respect for the environment.
