Certification Categories

Private Applicator: Private applicators are essentially agricultural producers. Examples include farmers, orchardists, greenhouse operators, and Christmas tree growers. Currently, 15,100 private applicators are certified in Wisconsin. Private certification registration can be purchased at participating County Extension offices.

Commercial Applicator: Commercial applicators include anyone (other than someone applying pesticides in or around their own home) who is not a private applicator. Examples include lawn care professionals, pet groomers, custom agrichemical applicators, and right-of-way crews. Currently, 12,800 commercial applicators are certified in Wisconsin.

Certification Category Descriptions: There are 6 private applicator certification categories/subcategories and 20 commercial applicator certification categories/subcategories. If you need to be certified as a pesticide applicator, you will need to get certified in the appropriate category(ies) and, if applicable, subcategory(ies).
