Contributions to the Business Community

Emy J’s is a strong supporter of Fair Trade Certified coffee and tea products, with the following three goals: To maintain the highest quality standards for our products; provide the best customer service possible; promote an inclusive workplace and help the local and worldwide communities. By sourcing all coffee beans from Fair Trade Certified growers, Emy J’s supports not only the local community, but communities of independent growers in developing nations. Co-owner, Guy Janssen has a passion for coffee and has been roasting most of the beans used or sold at Emy J’s for a number of years.

Adjacent to Emy J’s is The Garage, a theatre, music, dance, art, and film venue opened by Guy Janssen. The Garage further adds to the neighborhood vibrancy created by Emy J’s by drawing groups for evening and weekend events, as well as providing additional seating throughout the day.

Emy J’s is intensely involved in low-impact business practices and the local environmental movement. In addition to serving 100% Fair Trade Certified coffee and products from local businesses, Emy J’s composts all coffee grounds and organic wastes; accepts drop-off compostable material; installed a solar hot water heating system; purchases green power; hosts a winter farmer’s market in The Garage; hosts reading circles and other educational events and meetings; and supports local organizations
