This year, ThinkWater will be offering a pre in-service systems thinking and community food systems workshop.
Introduction to Systems Thinking
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Tuesday, September 13th, 2016
OPEN TO ALL EXTENSION STAFF + COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Offered as part of the Community Food Systems Team In-service at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station in Amherst Junction, WI (just east of Stevens Point). Participants are encouraged to, but do not need to attend the inservice.
Systems Thinking combines an understanding of how human and natural systems work (systems science) and how we think (cognitive science). Understanding systems thinking can improve how we act in any given system (eg, a community food system) and educate others about that system.
ThinkWater’s Jeremy Solin and Jennifer Kushner will facilitate the workshop examining why systems thinking is useful in addressing the everyday and complex community food systems issues we face. They will introduce the 4 simple rules of systems thinking – making Distinctions, understanding the wholes and parts of Systems, identifying Relationships, and taking Perspectives (DSRP). They will share ThinkWater tools and resources that will help to deepen your audience’s’ understanding of your topic and to enhance your own program development and evaluation.
- Learn systems thinking concepts
- Learn visual and tactile systems thinking modeling methods
- Learn about free systems thinking resources available online from ThinkWater
