Ellen Gottbeheat is the Chair of the WAHCE International program. In a recent correspondence she asks to share the focus of the state’s international initiatives. Pennies for Friendship collected from all counties fund these important programs. Projects include:
- Support and promote the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partnership (W/NP) quiltlet project, the stove project or other W/NP work in general
- Support the NVON “Water around the World” project (water filters)
- Support the Ventures in People Scholarship project.
In addition, Ellen encourages support for the ACWW Resolution on Food Sovereignty. This is the right of people to healthy and culturally appropriate food production through ecologically sound and sustainable methods and their right to define their own food and agricultural systems. Ellen challenges each HCE member to donate 25 cents to the CWC project #1007 “Production of Indigenous Rice and Vegetable Cultivation among Marginal Women Farmers and Prevent the Migration to Towns”. This can be done as part of the annual Pennies submission and the funds designated for CWC Project #1007 or India project.
Club officers/treasurers should be sure to collect Pennies at each meeting or HCE event to help support these works.
