Plan Commissioner Network Information and Resources – June 2014

 1. The May 28, 2014  Plan Commissioner Network materials on Shared Government Services are now posted!  Click here.

It was a great discussion- thank you all for participating!  A special thanks to Matt Parmentier for joining us again and providing his perspective on the use of Shared services agreements to achieve local government shared goals.  Key highlights from his material:

 – Towns have broad statutory authority to contract with other towns and municipalities for the sharing of services.  His material cites many statutes that offer this authority

 – There are 3 basic types of agreements:  a) one municipality provides a service for another, b) multiple municipalities jointly provide services, and c) municipalities make arrangements and agreements between or among themselves (e.g. boundary agreement)

 – He highlighted some best practices including making sure to get things in writing!  See his materials linked above for more details.

2.   The next Plan Commissioner Network meetings are scheduled for September 24 @ the T. Utica, and October 29 @ the T. Winchester. More information to follow – please mark your calendars!

3.  Future plans include an ‘orientation’ workshop for new Plan Commissioners in Winnebago County, and a Personal Leadership develoment workshop open to plan commissioners and board members.  Please stay tuned for details – these will likely occur in the Fall 2014.
