Air Quality Alert Prompts Smoke Concerns
The Wisconsin DNR has posted the first air quality advisory of the 2012-2013 heating season, for fine particle (PM2.5) air pollution. The November 18th-19th advisory for eastern Wisconsin projects degraded air quality (orange) that poses a health risk to people with heart and lung disease, older adults and children. Everyone should take steps to avoid contributing to poor air quality during the advisory period:
- Do not burn brush, leaves or grasslands.
- Do not burn wood to heat the home, or in fireplaces.
- Do not use small internal combustion engines (e.g. leaf blowers, lawn mowers).
