Since 2001, the Canadian province Brittish Columbia has had a medication collection program, funded by the pharmaceutical industry. It is administered by the Post Consumer Pharmaceutical Stewardship Association. PCPSA is a not-for-profit industry sponsored association that manages product stewardship initiatives for pharmaceutical and self-health products on behalf of its members across Canada. Another province, Manitoba, has recently joined the program.
The PCPSA program is designed for environmental and economic effectiveness. Drugs are collected in pharmacies and incinerated.
