2013 Annual Forage Council and Midwest Forage Association Meeting
The Council will once again conduct its annual meeting at Doxbee’s near Seymour on Thursday, February 7 with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. This is a half hour earlier than last year to ensure that we have enough time for the annual auction fundraiser. Forage Council 2013 Annual Meeting Agenda and Registration
Topics this year will include:
- Shredlage is a new method of ensiling corn silage that has received a great amount of interest this past year. Zen Miller, Dairy and Livestock Agent, will discuss the shredlage concept and how this different method of harvesting and ensiling corn silage impacts feeding this forage in the ration.
- Fungicides have become a more popular tool when managing alfalfa, Kevin Jarek, Crops, Soils, and Horticulture Agent, will discuss the results of a local demonstration plot as well as expand upon recent narrow row corn research that included brown mid-rib (BMR) hybrids in 2012. The latest results of the ongoing Wisconsin Alfalfa Yield and Persistence (WAYP) project will also be shared.
- Brian Rydlund, Market Analyst – CHS Hedging, Inc. will share information about how producers can maximize their returns from Crop Marketing Decisions in 2013. Brian will be sharing his insight about where the markets have been, where they are going, and what you can do as a producer to improve your chances of being on the right side of the fence when we experience the eventually market volatility and swings that have seem to develop over the last couple of years. Whether you are looking to market 1 bushel or 100,000 bushels, anyone looking for insight into potential risks & opportunities in 2013 should not miss this discussion.
Afterwards, we will have the annual business meeting, followed by our once a year auction fundraiser which supports all of the local council activities throughout the year.
