Encouraging women to run for local elected office

In Wisconsin, like the rest of the U.S., studies have shown that women are less likely to run for elected office. And their reasons for staying out of the political arena often differ from those given by men, according to a new study by three University of Wisconsin-Extension educators.


Raising Quality Dairy Heifers seminar scheduled

The University of Wisconsin-Extension Dairy Team will be hosting the “Raising Quality Dairy Heifers” seminar on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Liberty Hall in Kimberly and on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Clarion Hotel in Eau Claire. The seminar will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both locations.


Produce Food Safety Workshops to be held in March

With new federal food safety regulations in effect, vegetable farmers are increasingly turning their attention to developing sound, practical food safety plans for their farms. To address farmers’ interest in learning about workable and effective food safety solutions, University of Wisconsin-Extension, in partnership with Family Farmed, is hosting workshops in Viroqua on March 15 and Stevens Point on March 18, to help growers create individualized food safety plans and navigate the new federal regulations mandated by the Food Safety Modernization Act.
