The third annual Upper Midwest Hazelnut Growers Conference will be held March 2 and 3 in Decorah, IA at the Hotel Winneshiek.
The conference provides research-based information to prospective, beginning, and experienced Midwest hazelnut growers on a wide variety of topics and provides an opportunity for growers to network and work together to advance the Midwest hazelnut industry.
March 2 sessions targeted to beginning and prospective growers include choosing plants, establishing seedlings, fertilizing, and processing. March 3 sessions include presentations from Badgersett Research Corporation, the University of Minnesota, and Red Fern Farm. The focus of the March 3 afternoon will be on hazelnut processing. Demonstrations of new and experimental hazelnut processing equipment will occur from 2:30-5 p.m.
Growers are invited to participate in a meeting of the Minnesota Hazelnut Foundation and a steering committee meeting for a Wisconsin Hazelnut Growers Association which will be held in the evening of March 2.
The cost for the full conference is $50 or $25 for Friday and $40 for Saturday. The registration fee includes speakers, printed materials, breaks, and lunch on Saturday. Pre-registration is requested by Feb. 27. Add $5 for registrations at the door.
