Top 7 Recommendations for Winter Wheat Establishment
- Make a careful variety selection. Please see the 2011 WI Winter Wheat Performance Test
- Plant new seed
- Use a fungicide seed treatment
- Plant 1 inch deep
- Aim for a plant density of 30-35 plants per square foot (1,300,000 and 1,500,000 seeds/acre ) for wheat planted from September 15 – October 1.
- Increase seeding rate incrementally for wheat planted after October 1 to compensate for reduced fall tillering
- Rotate!
